I'm cut-and-pasting this straight from my EW application last year.
My burlesque inspirations are Tempest Storm for guts and class, Evangeline the Oyster Girl for sass, Bettie Page and Dita for show(wo)manship, Satan’s Angel for character, Amber Ray for creativity and presentation, Dirty Martini for grace, Julie Atlas Muz, Sasha von Bon Bon and about eight million others for sheer fabulousness. OTHER inspirations? Mae West, Tallulah Bankhead, John Cameron Mitchell/Hedwig, Anna Nicole Smith, Liz Taylor. Sequin Queen, Helen Davis, Anna Sui, the Muppets. Dance inspiration: Pina Bausch and Tanztheatre Wuppertal. Ballet Rambert. Fred Astaire and I’m going to have to go with Armando Duarte for a really powerful pelvic thrust. (That’s not even a dirty joke. He was one of my modern dance profs, and damned if that man didn’t increase my range of pelvic motion tenfold).
